Did you know you can take a boat tour of Houston for free? The Houston Ship Channel is just a short trip away from Tiburon Apartments. Take a break this weekend to see your city in a brand new way on the Sam Houston Boat Tour.
About the Sam Houston Boat Tour
It’s a city perk that’s hard to pass up. The 90-minute, round-trip Sam Houston Boat Tour along the Houston Ship Channel provides a leisurely tour around the edge of the city. Also, it’s an educational way to learn about the port and the city’s maritime enterprise.
Embarking from Port Houston’s Sam Houston Landing, the tour winds around the port to Turning Basin Terminal, where international cargo ships unload. Also, crew members are available for the duration of the trip to serve as guides and answer any questions passengers might have.
Learn About Port Houston
Passengers will ride on the M/V Sam Houston, a 95-foot tour vessel that can accommodate up to 100 passengers. The public tours are part of a community outreach effort to increase public awareness about the Port of Houston. Free tours on the vessel have been offered since 1958.
Among other efforts to connect with the community is a Speakers’ Bureau Program. Before or after your tour, you can learn more about the port by requesting a speaker. While there’s no guarantee that all requests can be accommodated, having one of Port Houston’s experts discuss the port is a wonderful way to learn about the history and impact of one of the community’s most important assets.
Port Houston is one of the world’s busiest ports. Channel-related business activity provides an estimated 1 million jobs throughout the state, and has a huge statewide economic effect. Possible presentation topics by a port expert range from a general overview to channel development to environmental stewardship.
