If you are in love with the magic of live theater, then Houston is the place for you! The Houston theater district spans 17 blocks and has over 13,000 seats, so there is no shortage of top-shelf entertainment. There are also a variety of smaller theaters offering outside-of-the-box theatrical experiences just beyond the theater district’s borders.

Premier Theaters in the Houston Theater District

Some of the biggest and most well-known theatrical venues in Houston include the Alley Theater, Jones Hall, Wortham Theater Center, and The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Here you can see everything from concerts to productions featuring local artists to shows brought in by touring companies.

This January, don’t miss The Great Society, part 2 of Robert Schenkken’s Tony Award-winning play about President Lyndon B. Johnson. Tickets can be purchased online, but be sure to purchase your tickets in advance so that you don’t miss out!

Experimental and Contemporary Fare

If you are looking for something a little different, Houston’s theater scene has the shows for you; there are plenty of thought-provoking works to be seen! Visit DiverseWorks and Barnevelder for unique theatrical experiences.

The innovative Catastrophic Theater is just one local theatre showcasing boundary-pushing, experimental pieces. Beginning in February they will be performing the ground-breaking Leap and the Net Will Appear by emerging artist Chana Porter.

All around and throughout the Houston theater district, you will find upscale dining just a stone’s throw from the venue of your choice.
