After dinner, there’s nothing better than biting into a slice of freshly baked pie. Whether you enjoy apple, key lime, or chocolate cream pie, several of Houston’s bakeries serve these choices and more. Those offering pickup or delivery near our apartments in West Houston include:
House of Pies
A local fixture for over 40 years, the House of Pies offers treats made the old-fashioned way. The bakers never use preservatives and start each day early to make the pies from scratch. You’ll find both classic and one-of-a-kind creations, and there’s always something new to try. Sample Bayou Goo. A customer favorite, it features cream cheese, chocolate chunks, vanilla custard, and whipped cream on a pecan crust. The House of Pies provides pickup or delivery through DoorDash.
Flying Saucer Pie Company
Boasting that “pie makes everything better,” the Flying Saucer Pie Company is one of Houston’s oldest bakeries. This family-owned business opened in 1967, and many of its customers have walked through the doors for decades. In the kitchen, the bakers use time-honored recipes. They create the pies daily and even make their own whipped cream. Choices include strawberry, chocolate, and lemon meringue. Both slices and whole pies are available for takeout Tuesday through Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Ooh La La
A one-stop destination for pies, cookies, cupcakes, and other sweets, Ooh La La believes in eating dessert first. Founder Vanessa O’Donnell grew up with a love of baking. At nine, she picked dewberries along the fence and made delectable cobblers. She graduated from the Art Institute of Houston’s Baking and Pastry program in 2004 and honed her skills at the Houston Country Club. Today, Vanessa bakes an array of pies, including apple, cherry, and blueberry cobbler (seasonal).
