Walk Around These Three Arts Events in Houston

Enjoy fun displays and contests at these three arts events in Houston!

You’re never too far from a good time when you live at Tiburon Apartments. Houston has a little bit of something for everybody. It is a city known for many things, such as its barbecue and a legendary music scene. But it also offers a lot to people who are curious about the art world, especially at these three exhibits and arts events in Houston.

YMBL South Texas State Fair and Rodeo

The YMBL South Texas State Fair and Rodeo is an annual festival that mixes traditional Texas culture and an appreciation of the arts. Started by local businessman Ed Paggi, the fair brings together carnival rides and championship rodeo competitions, as well as a trio of contests showcasing pieces presented by local citizens. The State Fair begins on March 21 and runs through March 30.

The school art show collects pieces from students in Jefferson and the surrounding communities. The quilt show is free and open to the general public. The panel hands out ribbons to winners in large and small quilts divisions. There are hand- and machine-quilting categories as well. The photography contest includes both youth and adult divisions, with cash prizes given out to photography and graphic art winners.

Houston Museum of Fine Arts

Houston also offers plenty of ways to experience art from less local but much more famous artists. The Houston Museum of Fine Arts will be home to the exhibit His Life in Art, an extensive gallery featuring the works of Vincent Van Gogh. The exhibit tracks a path through the legendary painter’s life via four key stages in his life, using over fifty works from Van Gogh’s catalog, including early sketches, landscapes, and portraits. His Life will be shown until September 2.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

Also, make time to see the installation BIOPHILIA: A Dialogue with Art, Nature, and Science before the start of September. This expansive multimedia experience lives at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It explores humanity’s relationship with the rest of nature in vivid detail. The specimens chosen for BIOPHILIA display a unique sense of color, size, and morphology. The exhibit displays the vastness of nature’s aesthetics with the hope of developing a deeper appreciation of the natural world in each visitor. Artist and New York Times bestseller Christopher Marley created the exhibit.
